I just bought GT6 today and decided I need a good wheel. I'm leaning towards Driving Force GT, but wanted your opinions first. What are you all using?

I'm in the same conundrum... from what I've read, the G27 is worth the extra cash over the Driving Force GT.

If I were you, I'd wait a few weeks longer; I'm they will go cheap soon since all the PS4 junk will be coming out

I second the G27. You get an actual clutch and gated shifter. With stainless steel and leather, it is pretty decently built too for the price.

I'm not suppose to be commenting, but I have a driving force GT and I think it sucks. Save up for a g27.

I disagree, the G27 sucks and the DFGT is the wheel to get on a budget.

Ask yourself how much you'll play driving games. If you play all the time on a daily basis, then yes it is. But if you only play once or twice on occasion, the GT is better.

The Driving Force is a great entry level wheel, but it's is nowhere near as popular as the G27. The G27 has paddle shifters and a dual-motor force feedback system, so it feels a lot more realistic. Used ones are on eBay for less than $200, and new they're like $250, but everyone I've heard who has a G27 raves about it. I'm getting one when I get my PS3/GT6 combo this Christmas :)

I just picked one of these up. I chose it over the G27 since I only occasionally play video games and would generally rather spend my money on my real cars. So far I'm happy with it. There is quite a bit of a learning curve, though, after having exclusively used a controller since the very first Gran Turismo game.

Why is that? Purely cost? Or is it things like ease of setup, or something else I haven't mentioned?

I've had a G25 and now a G27 for the past 7 years. The DFGT is decent, but I'd definatley pony up and get one of the two, used if you can find it or new, depending on how much you want to spend.
It's worth it.

G27's about twice the price of the DFG ($250 vs. $120). It's apparently worth the money if you play a lot, but the price is too high to justify placing once or twice a week on.

He basically nails it. I haven't found the G25 or 27 to be particularly better in terms of the wheel itself. The pedals of the DFGT aren't the best, but they work just fine. However, it is leagues beyond the controller and I got mine for 90$ two years ago so expect to pay sub 100$ prices after the holidays

Well you just missed the g27 for $199 on amazon black Friday week and stuff. Keep an eye on there, it goes on sale like that sometimes.

The controller is my toughest opponent in GT5. It's almost impossible to achieve nuance with it. At any rate, thank you as well.

Although I don't have it anymore, I loved the DFGT for the ability to change setting on the move with that red dial. I later bought a G25 and it was much better. Why? It had a clutch and H pattern. It really adds to the experience.

Simple comparison
DFGT = usually costs ~100$. Has a good solid wheel, but only okay pedals and the paddle shifters are small (but effective). The shifter is also only a sequential.
G27 = much more expensive and only has a 6-speed manual for a shifter. Pedals are a bit nicer but I have yet to notice the wheel to be anything better to hold or use. The G27 also lacks the dials on the DFGT. That dial lets you adjust traction control, ABS, brake balance, and more in the middle of a race
If you play nothing bu racing games and play them often, the G27 or similar wheel is a good investment. Otherwise, get the DFGT since it will be so much cheaper while still providing the essential wheel/pedal combo along with a few accessories. The G27 gets ALL the toys but it costs a ton and my friend has had problems with his G25 after only a year or two. He got a G27 but returned it and got a Fanatec wheel instead. Now a fanatec is 500$ or more but it also accurately resembles actual car wheels and pedals.
Your call.

The DFGT is a great wheel. Solid feel, buttons to adjust things on the fly if you're playing GT, and a compact sequential shifter so you don't have extra bits going everywhere. And at a sub 100 dollar price point a lot of times it's a great value for money if you wanna scratch that wheel itch. Not to mention you can use it for PC as well. I thoroughly enjoyed mine.
Until I bought myself a G25. Sure, it was at a premium. But the leather feel and the third pedal matched with the six speed just lets you get into it so much more. I find it to me less finicky except for when it has a weird moment and forgets where 3rd is. If I had to choose one, the G series is worth the extra money. But I don't regret starting with the DFGT.
And who knows, if you find that the more premium wheels from thrustmaster and fanatec are more your thing, well these will get set to the side. So it's really the thought of "Is some leather and a six speed with an extra pedal worth the price of two DFGT?"

I'm scared of the curve too, but GT6 is just so much better than 5 IMO that I finally feel the need for a wheel.

How does the shifter feel? I'm curious about that as I'm a 3-pedal fanboy, but don't know if it's worth springing for.

I got some tourney controller when my dualshock went because I liked the xbox layout it had. The triggers and sticks are much more sensitive and make the game much easier on controller. That being said, I can't imagine they match the accuracy of a wheel.

The shifter feels good in my hand, is pretty light, a bit notchy, and there's some side to side play even when in gear. So not 100% realistic, but there are people out there who modify them to make them feel better. The clutch and gas feel looser than the brakes, and the pedals themselves are adjustable side to side. Right, down and back is reverse. The clutch works well with GT5, and I assume it will for GT6. You can put it in a high gear at a standstill and ride the clutch to get moving. You can stall the car, and you can miss shifts if you don't use the clutch accordingly

How long have you had your's and how's it holding up? At this point, I'm leaning towards the Driving Force, since it sounds like it's a good mid-range wheel, but want something to make me say, "screw it, I'm getting a G27."

I like the idea of a used G27, but I'm quite frankly terrified of used peripherals of any sort. I like warranties on that sort of purchase.

I think you sold me on the DFGT. I'm trying to get my family to get this as a Christmas gift, but am expecting some response along the lines of, "For chrissakes Joe, you're in college. Why the fuck do you want a 100+ dollar video game controller?"
If only they understood...

Having owned a wheel similar to this as well as a few others I can say for the price that this is a pretty good wheel. There are definitely much better wheels out there, but if this is your first wheel and you aren't sure how often you are going to use it I wouldn't spend tons of money on one. If in a few years you think it might be worth it to get something better, a Logitech G27 is a good choice, or if you really want to go all-out get a Fanatec wheel. I've had one for a few years now and they are absolutely amazing.
